Howlin Owls loved getting together to jam, write tunes and listen to old records in the shed, taking it in turns to use the headphones.

After an extended session of listening to dirty blues and funk soul they had to get some fresh air. They wandered in the local woods and found themselves in an old barn. A damp broken down place with a musty smell.

After many months of mucking about they turned it into a studio, made it home, lit a fire, kept it burning and set about recording their blues, country and soul rockin inspired album influenced by the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Band, Tom Waits, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and all the woodland animals that would come to listen every Tuesday and Thursday night.

The LampLighter, Overstone Road, Northampton

We are very much looking forward to welcoming FRONTIER RUCKUS to The Lamplighter, as part of their UK tour - this will be a show not to miss and it's gonna be FREE.

"Enter The Kingdom" which was recorded by Wilco drummer Ken Coomer in Nashville and will be released on 17 february through Loose Music.

FRONTIER RUCKUS Wavering between the worlds of bluegrass, turn of the century broadsheets and today’s folk-pop, Frontier Ruckus is no mere revivalist outfit; rather more a synthesis of modernity with a rose glassed tint, and unwavering honesty…

This is flawless musicianship combined with a sheer joy of playing, displaying awesome harmonies, some tricky banjo and a singing saw!

“…delicate, finger-picked banjos, aching, oaky violin and the haunting voice of frontman Matthew Milia, who conjures what might happen had Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum been raised in a log cabin. Their songs are full of rich, rural details: frozen lakes, swaying trees, highway lights glowing in the deep night. Add to the mix baleful brass and trembling percussion, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for Gothic Americana.” – Rolling Stone
